While new episodes of BattleBots on Discovery have been put on hold, the Combat Robotics team at UC Berkeley decided to explore new events separate from our 250 lb spinner, Glitch. As an entry into the inaugural, 1 lb combat robot competition at UC Berkeley, BRANDONBOT was created. Inspired by the legendary BattleBots champion Tombstone, BRANDONBOT is an agile, versatile, heavy-hitting robot equipped to dominate any fight.
Designed in Fusion360 and analyzed via ANSYS, the horizontal spinner's one-tooth weapon is designed for maximum energy transfer, aiming for knockout wins. Power is transmitted to the weapon via a hubmotor setup, maximizing weapon mass and RPMs. Supported by inclined armor surrounding the wheels, blows to the chassis are deflected.
The name BRANDONBOT comes from my friend, Brandon, who graciously let us use his image as our robot's branding!
After months of designing, the 1lb tournament, hosted by Combat Robotics at Berkeley (CRB), commenced on December 7th, 2024. Against 10 other teams, team BRANDONBOT competed in a round-robin into single-elimination tournament, where the winner would be immortalized into CRB history as the very first winner. Despite getting cut up, setting an opponent's batteries on fire, and even a self-inflicted explosion, BRANDONBOT emerged victorious!
